What slim fit means
Slim fit follows the body more closely than regular fit: narrower through the chest and waist, a slimmer sleeve and a tapered trouser leg. It looks sharp on slimmer and athletic builds, and with the right size it works for many other builds as well.
How to check a slim fit
The jacket should close without pulling, you should be able to raise your arms and sit comfortably, and the trousers should not bind at the thigh. If it feels tight, try the next size up.
Slim fit explained in detail
A slim-fit suit is cut closer to the body than a regular-fit suit. The chest and waist are narrower, the sleeves are slimmer, the armholes sit higher and the trousers taper toward the ankle. The result is a sharper, more modern silhouette. The trade-off is less room, which is why correct sizing matters.
| Slim fit | Regular fit | |
|---|---|---|
| Chest and waist | Close to the body | More room |
| Sleeves | Slimmer | Fuller |
| Trousers | Tapered | Straighter |
| Best for | Slimmer or athletic builds | Comfort-first or broader builds |
Who slim fit suits best
Slimmer and athletic builds suit slim fit most naturally. Men with broader chests or shoulders can often wear slim fit by sizing up. If a slim fit feels tight, try the next size, or try another brand, since each cuts slightly differently.
A slim-fit checklist
When you try one on, check these.
- -The jacket closes without an X-shaped pull.
- -You can raise both arms without the jacket riding up.
- -The sleeves end near the wrist bone.
- -The trousers do not bind at the thigh when you sit.
- -The shoulders sit at the edge of your shoulder.
Asian fit and slim fit
Our suits use Asian sizing from 48 to 60 and an Asian fit. This is typically slimmer and shorter than Western sizing, which is why your usual size may differ. Our size guide and the fit request tool help you prepare.
Slim fit myths
Myths about slim fit.
- -Myth: slim fit is only for slim men. Reality: with the right size, many builds wear it well.
- -Myth: slim fit means tight. Reality: it should be close but comfortable.
- -Myth: slim fit is a fashion fad. Reality: it is now the standard modern cut.
Sitting in a slim-fit suit
Test the suit seated. The trousers should not bind at the thigh, the jacket should not ride up, and the waistband should be comfortable. If it fails, try the next size or another brand.
Slim fit sizing rules of thumb
Quick rules.
- -Fit the shoulders first.
- -If the jacket pulls at the button, size up.
- -If the trousers are tight at the thigh, size the trousers up separately.
- -Always try two sizes.
Modern cut
A closer silhouette without being restrictive.
Brand differences
Each brand's slim fit varies, so compare in person.
