Ready-to-wear suits have transformed how men in Singapore dress. Where getting a suit once meant booking a tailor weeks in advance and spending thousands of dollars, ready-to-wear gives you a sharp, well-fitted look off the rack — same day, at a fraction of the cost.
What Is a Ready-to-Wear Suit?
A ready-to-wear (RTW) suit is a suit that has been manufactured to standard sizes and is available to purchase immediately, without the need for a custom tailoring appointment. Unlike bespoke or made-to-measure suits — which can take 4 to 8 weeks and cost upward of $500 — a ready-to-wear suit is designed to fit the modern man straight off the rack.
Today's ready-to-wear suits are cut to modern proportions: slim through the chest and waist, clean in the shoulder, and tailored in silhouette. For most men, a ready-to-wear suit fits well with minimal alteration.
Why Ready-to-Wear Suits Work So Well in Singapore
Singapore's social calendar is packed — weddings, corporate events, formal dinners, and celebration gatherings happen year-round. The demand for suits is constant, but so is the humidity. A lightweight, well-cut ready-to-wear suit in a breathable fabric is often more practical than a heavily constructed bespoke garment.
- —No waiting weeks for a tailor — take it home the same day
- —Significantly lower price point than made-to-measure
- —Modern slim fit cuts that suit most body types
- —Available in a wide range of colours and styles
- —Easy to try on in person and compare across brands
3-Piece vs 2-Piece: Which Should You Buy?
A 2-piece suit comes with a jacket and matching trousers. A 3-piece adds a waistcoat — and in Singapore's formal event culture, the 3-piece is almost always the smarter choice. It gives you more versatility: wear the full set for a wedding or formal dinner, or remove the jacket and wear the waistcoat with the trousers for a smart-casual look.
At Suit Archive, every suit is a complete 3-piece — jacket, waistcoat, and matching trousers — for a single flat price of $178.
How to Choose the Right Ready-to-Wear Suit
1. Get the shoulders right
The shoulder seam is the hardest thing to alter on a suit. When trying on a jacket, make sure the seam sits exactly at the edge of your shoulder — no overhang, no pulling. Everything else (chest, waist, sleeve length) can be adjusted by a tailor for a small fee.
2. Check the chest
When the jacket is buttoned, you should be able to fit one fist comfortably inside. Any more and it's too loose; any less and you'll feel restricted when seated.
3. Try on multiple brands
Different suit brands cut differently, even at the same labelled size. One brand's 'M' may run slimmer in the chest while another sits higher on the waist. This is why we always recommend coming into our studio to try on multiple brands side by side.
